The Olympic Opening Ceremony may not be until Friday night but Team Ireland is in action for the first time today with the Men’s Rugby Sevens playing the first two of their three group games at the Stade de France.
Both the men’s and women’s tournaments are being played there and the reason for their early start is to get the stadium ready for the athletics which is being held in the same venue.
The Women’s tournament will start on Sunday.
First up for the men is a clash with South Africa at 16:30 and then Japan at 20:00.
The third game is on Thursday afternoon with a 15:30 start against new Zealand and then who knows?
All the Ireland matches will be shown live on RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player.
We are travelling with high hopes after a strong season in which the team came second overall in the World Rugby SVNS League but bookmakers are taking a cooler view having Ireland only as fifth favourites behind France, New Zealand, Argentina and Fiji.
Sport for Business will host its annual Sponsorship Showcase event in Dublin on Thursday morning, October 10th. This is one of many events planned for the remainder of 2024.
