The All Ireland Hurling Semi Final between Clare and Galway has been listed for broadcast from Semple Stadium in Thurles with the programme starting at 1.30 PM and running through to 3.45 PM, presumably with a buffer for more extra time.
It will take place in between two tranches of live coverage from the multi-sport European Championships that starts at 9.15 AM and will run on after the Hurling until 9.30 PM. The baton is then handed to Des Cahill who hosts the Sunday Game until 11.30 and is then followed by a rerun of the first episode of The Game until 12.35 AM.
The winner take all All Ireland Super 8’s game which will determine whether Donegal or Tyrone go forward to the Semi-Final in the Football Championship will be shown live from Ballybofey on RTÉ 1 with a throw-in at 3.30 PM.
The simultaneous game from Croke Park between Dublin and Roscommon will now be shown at the same time on the RTÉ News now Channel. Dublin have already qualified for the Semi-Final but it’s a shame to have to move as this game will see charity Aoibheann’s Pink Tie replacing AIG in the Dublin shirts. The exposure will now be less than would have been hoped for.
The Hurling Replay in Thurles is expected to be a complete sell out with the capacity of 45,000 some 10,000 less than attended the first game on Saturday evening.
Tickets went on sale online via Tickets.ie yesterday and through Supervalu and Centra stores where long queues were reported throughout the day.
No tickets are being sold through the clubs for the replay, a decision criticised by some but which is most likely the result of the sheer volume of activity taking place.
It was also announced yesterday that Sport for Business member Tickets.ie would be taking over the handling of ticket sales for the Liam Miller Memorial Game in Pairc Uí Chaoimh in September with those tickets going on sale next Monday, August 13th.
The original match scheduled for Turners Cross was being handled by Ticketmaster.
