The annual GAA Special of The Late Late Show returns this Friday night, with the programme set to embrace full county colours for a celebration of Gaelic games, community and club pride.
With a studio audience decked out in jerseys from across the country, the show will feature a mix of GAA legends, comedy, live challenges and music, placing a particular focus on the family and club foundations that underpin the association.
Presenter Patrick Kielty will be joined by four generations of one of Dublin football’s most recognisable families, as Bernard Brogan Snr, Bernard Brogan Jnr, Alan Brogan and Paul Brogan sit down together for a rare on-screen conversation. The Brogans will reflect on decades of success with Dublin, the sibling and intergenerational rivalry that shaped their careers, and what it meant to grow up in a household where Gaelic football was a constant presence.
The programme will also feature several GAA figures revisiting defining moments from their careers. Broadcaster and long-time GAA commentator Marty Morrissey and former Mayo star Cora Staunton will each share their most cherished GAA memories, offering perspectives from both the pitch and the commentary box.
Comedy will form a central part of the night, with impressionist Conor Moore bringing his take on well-known players, managers and pundits. Moore will also take part in a fast-paced GAA-themed quiz alongside podcast host Laurita Blewitt, with plenty of humour and competitive banter expected.
Away from the studio, sports presenter Jacqui Hurley will broadcast live from Croke Park, where two audience members will be selected for a new Late Late challenge staged under the stadium lights.
The show will also highlight the role of families at club level, honouring four families from four different clubs who lifted All-Ireland titles last season. Those involved will speak about the impact of success on their local communities and why the GAA continues to represent more than just sport.
Music on the night will come from a selection of Irish folk performers, joined by Dublin singer-songwriter George Murphy.
The Late Late Show GAA Special airs on Friday at 9.35 pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
