As the Irish Women’s National Team prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, RTÉ will broadcast a brand new documentary telling their story.

The Road Down Under looks at the extraordinary collective and individual journey that led them to a first major championship and into the hearts of the Irish public.

Featuring in-depth interviews with the team and management, alongside behind the scenes footage, off-pitch lifestyle shoots, match highlights and personal archive, this documentary will dig deep into the team and personal histories of this ground-breaking squad.

It will tell the story of the squad that had to go on strike to get noticed and ultimately backed up their boldness by delivering the incredible prize of World Cup Qualification.

This documentary tells an inspiring story of resilience, grit and determination that has ultimately received the reward it deserves. In The Road Down Under, these brilliant women comprehensively tell their story for the first time.

Ross Whitaker is the creator of The Road Down Under and has previously directed documentaries on Katie Taylor (Katie), Shane Lowry (Open) and Rachael Blackmore (A Grand Year).

The Road Down Under will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Wednesday July 19th at 9:30pm.
