Each weekend we take a look back on the sporting highs from across Ireland and around the world through the medium of numbers. This weekend was spectacular for Irish international teams in Rugby, Football and Gymnastics while there was drama in the conclusion to the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League, history across generations in Gaelic Games and a novel fundraiser in Tipperary…

3

The number of wins for Ireland over New Zealand in the last five games between the pair. Not bad considering it had taken 111 years and 28 matches to get the first.

8

The number of Irish players who were rated as having played up to a nine in the Irish Independent post-match report.

3

The number of the weekend for the Republic of Ireland who scored three goals away from home for the third time under Stephen Kenny and finished third in our Qualifying group to secure a likely third seed position in the draw for the Euro 2024 tournament that will take place next year.

35

The gap in years between Val Daly captaining Mountbellew-Moylough to victory in the Galway Senior Football Final and his managing them to a follow up on Sunday with two of his sons in the starting 15.

12

The number of goals scored across the two games that determined the outcome of the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League on Saturday. Peamount United needed just a home win over Galway WFC or failure to win for Shelbourne against Wexford Youths to secure the title. When they went 2-0 up that looked assured but Galway scored two before the break and three after to leave the title resting on the result from Tolka Park. Shelbourne were 3-0 up but then conceded two goals to leave shredded nerves before the final whistle meant a first title win since 2016.

100

The cost in Euros of putting your own or a loved one’s name onto a seat in Semple Stadium. Two giant banners on the terracing at the ground were used to launch the MyStadiumSeat project during TG4 coverage of the Tipperary Senior Hurling County Final on Sunday. There are 24,000 seats with the capacity to raise €2.4 million towards the redevelopment of the Kinane or Old Stand.

3

The number of medals won by Irish Gymnasts at the Northern European Apparatus Championships in Cardiff. Daniel Fox on Rings, and Ewan McAteer on Vault both won Gold with Michael O’Neil taking silver on the Floor.
