From a very special night and a very special goal at the Aviva Stadium to a power-packed performance from Armagh, another one from Rory McIlroy, history on the European Golf Tour and World Championship metal in Para Swimming and Triathlon it was another sporting weekend to live long in the memory…
It was a special night at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday. The Republic of Ireland’s Men’s Team’s biggest win against a team ranked above them since 1989, that’s pre-Italia 90. What’s better was the style of play that led to it and this very, very special goal from first-time starter Michael Obafemi

The Gaelic Games performance of the weekend was that of Armagh in progressing to the Quarter Finals of the All Ireland Senior Men’s Football Championship. Power, pace, accuracy and an opening goal that is the fastest in Championship history.

There was a strange, financially rich but morally questionable golf tournament on over the weekend. The DP World Tour and the PGA Tour needed some big moments to keep them firmly on top in the public consciousness. They delivered.

And while it might have been a tough weekend for Leinster and Ulster in the United Rugby Championship there was something to celebrate with the Men’s Sevens over on Zagreb…
