The quest to qualify for UEFA EURO 2025 begins tonight for the Republic of Ireland WNT against France in the Saint-Smyphorien Stadium.

Eileen Gleeson’s squad arrived in France on Wednesday afternoon having started their preparation for this Group A3 opener in the FAI National Training Centre.

This will be Ireland’s first visit to France since 2012 and a debut in Metz – a city that Les Bleus have not played in since a 2-0 win over Switzerland in February 2021.

Kick off is at 20:10 and their is full live coverage on RTÉ2.

France have won ten of the eleven previous encounters between the two sides, scoring 31 goals and conceding two. The sides drew 0-0 in a friendly back in 1978.

The only recent clash between the current squads awas a World Cup build up match at tallaght Stadium which France won 3-0.

Sky have marked the extension of their partnership through to the end of 2028 with a new TV creative which is visible online and will be over the coming days.

It is worth noting as well that Northern Ireland are playing their opening group stage match at home to Malta in the National Football Stadium at Windsor park.

Sport for Business Perspective:

This is going to be tough but that’s what comes from playing at the very highest level. The mood from the camp is positive and with England coming to the Aviva on Tuesday, the excitement among supporters is sky high.

There will be setbacks along the way but this is the big time and Ireland have earned their place.

Full credit to the Irish FA as well for staging their game tonight at the National Stadium in Belfast.
