Before the team departed for Tokyo we had a chat at the Sport Ireland Campus with Neasa Russell, Chef de mission for Team Ireland at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and Sports Director for Paralympics Ireland.

She returned to the job three months ago after 13 years working within elite sport in the UK with, among others, the successful team GB Rowing set up.

We spoke about the lessons gleaned from the Olympic Games and the logistical challenges of sending a team to compete at the highest level of sport, on the other side of the world, in the midst of a global pandemic.

There is plenty to learn but Team Ireland seems to be in very capable hands.

Watch back the conversation above.
