In a new weekly feature for members of the Sport for Business Community we will look at deals from around the world that are relevant to Irish sporting bodies or from companies that have a presence here in Ireland.

Toyota Become WorldWide Paralympic Partner

Toyota has signed a nine year deal to become the sixth worldwide partner of the International Paralympic Committee.  They join Samsung, Visa, Ottobock, Atos and Panasonic at the top level of partnership.

Toyota have a long standing tradition of sponsorship of sport in Ireland.  They currently have deals in place with a number of individual stars including Katie Taylor and are official vehicle partners to Cricket Ireland and the GAA.

Paralympics Ireland had a partnership with Renault Ireland at the London Games but there is no auto partner at present going into 2016.  Maybe there is an opportunity there for Toyota to echo Allianz in turning a global agreement into a very effective local sponsorship as well.

Scots Cycle into Legal Partnership

A major UK law firm has signed up to be the official legal adviser to Scottish Cycling and will also be credited as the team sponsor of Scotland track cycling squad.  With the exception of Beauchamps who were sponsors of Leinster Rugby for a spell there has been little sporting sponsorship from the major law firms in Dublin.  Maybe there is scope for big players like Matheson, Mason Hayes and Curran or Goodbody to get involved in areas where their clients and potential clients are watching…

Diageo Withdraws from Indian Racing

Diageo’s takeover of an Indian Brewing group has brought to an end a 30 year association with alcohol sponsorship of India’s premier horse race.  No sooner had the contract been terminated though when the man who sold the business Vijay Mallya stepped back in with a two year deal worth €1.2 million to have the race run as the Kingfisher Ultra Indian Derby.
