
The event is now fully subscribed for this eighth edition of the race, organised by Sport Ireland in partnership with RTÉ, Athletics Ireland, Dublin City Council, Healthy Ireland and the OPW.
“I am delighted that I will be in Phoenix Park on Saturday to greet the 5,000 participants taking part in the Operation Transformation 5k run,” said Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mícheál MacDonncha.
“This is always a fantastic fun filled event which draws people from all over Ireland to the capital.”
According to the latest Irish Sports Monitor Report, running remains one of Ireland’s most popular sports with 8.2 percent of adults taking part in regular running sessions.
There will be plenty of recognisable faces in the line up as well including Taoiseach Leo Varadkar who said “The Operation Transformation 5k is always a great event and I’m happy to be taking part this year. Whether walking or running, getting out and getting active is so important for both physical and mental wellbeing. Operation Transformation has played a big role in inspiring many to change their habits and move towards a healthier lifestyle. Through events such as this, Operation Transformation has shown us that small steps can make a big difference to your health, you just need to start.”
“I attended the Operation Transformation 5k for the first time last year and what an enjoyable occasion it was,” added Transport, Tourism and Sport Minister Shane Ross who will also be there albeit not competing.
“It was heartening to see so many people turn out to participate in such high spirits. I look forward to being in the Phoenix Park on Saturday to support and applaud the 5,000 plus participants along with the Operation Transformation leaders.”
50,000 participants have taken part in the free Operation Transformation 5k Runs in Phoenix Park and in Cork since 2011.
“The Operation Transformation 5K is a very important event in the promotion of healthy living and the pursuit of exercise and I look forward to seeing another big turnout of participants on Saturday,” added Sport Ireland CEO John Treacy.
