John O’Shea may yet be part of another FAI announcement this week but yesterday he was at the Aviva Stadium in his capacity as a UEFA Europa League Final ambassador to launch the the UEFA Europa League Trophy Tour in Dublin.

The trophy, which arrived in Dublin this morning, will be visiting a number of different events and places in Dublin this week to promote the upcoming UEFA Europa League Final in Dublin on Wednesday, May 22.

O’Shea, the ambassador for the final this year, was with the trophy on it’s first stop of the week in what will be known as the Dublin Arena until the game is played with the trophy tour set to last until Saturday.

The trophy will visit a number of stakeholders before the public leg of the tour begins on Friday afternoon at Irishtown Stadium as 48 schools take part in the Dublin Europa Cup, ran by Dublin City Council.

Next, it will then make the trip across town to Richmond Park for St. Patrick’s Athletic v Waterford on Friday evening with supporters in attendance at the League of Ireland match able to take photos with the trophy ahead of the fixture.

John O’Shea will be back in Dublin for the visit to CHI at Crumlin Hospital on Saturday morning to bring the trophy to the children at the hospital before the trophy will be available to the general public at the ILAC Centre on Saturday from 12:30 until 4pm.

“It’s great to be here today to promote the UEFA Europa League trophy tour this week, another important step as we head towards the final on Wednesday, May 22,” said O’Shea.

“Having the trophy in Dublin really does raise the excitement levels for the final with the fixtures now at the quarter-final stage heading into the second leg and with some massive sides left in the competition.

“The level of interest in the UEFA Europa League final has rarely been seen before and it is fantastic that Dublin is set to host one of the biggest sporting events in Europe. Hopefully as many people as people are able to visit the trophy as we begin to look ahead to that final date with just over a month to go now.”
