As part of the relationship, Sportscover will also become the Presenting Partner of UK Sport’s Gold Event Series Workshops and Governance events through to 2017.
This identification of key sporting events targeted for medal prospects over an extended period is believed to have been a key element in the multi annual funding supplied by the British Government which has long been called for to be replicated in Ireland.
Sportscover works here with O’Driscoll O’Neill to deliver a specialist sports insurance product for a number of Irish National Governing Bodies in sport. Last week it brought together a number of leading administrators for a special conference on the risks and rewards within sport.
One of the speakers at that event was David Walker of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. He stated one of the key challenges facing sport and the volunteer base on which many major events are based was the idea that “sport, leisure and play needs to be as safe as is necessary, not necessarily as safe as is possible. There has to be a balance between risk and access.”
Sportscover was formed in Australia to meet a need for specifically worded sports insurance policies, an area where there remains only limited specialist coverage.
This is despite the fact that insurance companies have become one of the main sectors involved in sporting sponsorship through Aviva, Allianz, Liberty Insurance, Chill and AIG.
Paul Thomas, Business Development Director at Sportscover commented: “Our ultimate goal is to become synonymous with sport in Britain and in Ireland,” said Paul Thomas, Business Development Director at Sportscover. ” This relationship with UK Sport means we can assist UK Sport and its beneficiaries with the continued delivery of excellence across the sporting landscape”.
