Virgin Media Television is significantly expanding its live coverage of athletics, starting with all three days from the 2024 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow next month.

There will also be 16 live events in the 2024 Wanda Diamond League, as the world’s elite compete at meets right across the globe. It gets underway on 20th April with action from Xiamen in China.

In addition, Virgin Media Television will be airing live coverage from the World Cross Country Championships on 30th March from Serbia.

Will Dalton will be broadcasting live from the Commonwealth Arena in Glasgow for the World Indoor Athletics Championships on 1st-3rd March, bringing viewers the best of the action and reaction from Irish and international athletes.

This significant expansion will ensure that Ireland’s top stars like Rhasidat Adeleke and Ciara Mageean will be covered live on Irish television right throughout the season.

“We are delighted to expand our athletics coverage for 2024 following on from the success of the World Championships last summer,” said Mick McCaffrey, Head of News and Sport at Virgin Media Television.

“With a host of Irish athletes competing for medals in this Olympic year we are looking forward to showcasing their talents in the World Indoor Championships, World Cross Country Championships as well as the Wanda Diamond League series.”

“We are always looking at ways to grow our sport and reach new fans,” added James Lord, Director of Broadcasting for World Athletics.

“We are delighted that, along with our partners at EBU, we have been able to extend our relationship with Virgin Media Television to bring coverage of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 to viewers across Ireland.”

“We look forward to continuing to bring the best of athletics – the number one Olympic sport — to our fans across the country.”
