An International Women’s Day panel event built around the theme Give to Gain will bring together athletes, administrators and medical experts to explore why meaningful investment in women’s sport is directly linked to better performance and longer careers.
The session will challenge the long-standing expectation that women’s sport can deliver elite results with fewer resources, less funding and limited structural support. Instead, the discussion will centre on the evidence that when proper investment is made, the returns are tangible — stronger performances, improved athlete welfare and more sustainable success.
The panel features a blend of sporting and business expertise. Elaine Birch, Communications and Content Manager at AccountsIQ, will join Ruth May, the 2022 British Taekwondo Champion and Account Executive at ExpenseIn. They will be joined by Lizzie Hanlon, prop with Harlequins and former England international, alongside Sarah Prior, physiotherapist with Harlequins, offering insights from both the playing and medical perspectives.
Olympic ambition will also be represented by Hollie Elliott, a member of Team Ireland’s LA2028 Olympic triathlon national squad, while Eleanor Condon, Women in Sport Lead, EDI Lead and National Anti-Doping Officer with Triathlon Ireland, will provide governance and policy insight into the structural supports required to drive long-term change.
The session promises a deeper understanding of how financial and organisational backing influences not only performance outcomes but also athlete longevity and wellbeing. Attendees will hear first-hand accounts of the physical and structural challenges faced by female athletes, and the critical role of sports science and medical provision in creating sustainable high-performance environments.
Beyond visibility and branding, the panel will examine how sponsorship and leadership decisions can shape pathways, standards and opportunities in women’s sport. Practical takeaways will be offered for businesses, sponsors and leaders seeking to make a meaningful impact.
Open to those across sport, business and leadership, the event aims to move the conversation beyond aspiration, demonstrating that giving more to women’s sport delivers measurable returns both on and off the field.
