Samsung has extended its reach into support for Irish sport by signing up as the official technology partner of Leinster Rugby.

The company also supports the Samsung Night Run that will take place for the third time in 2014.

In an international context it is one of the largest sporting sponsors in the world. From its South Korean base it runs five professional sports teams and another eight competing at high level in amateur codes.

It is a main partner of multiple international sporting organisations including the International Olympic Committee and will be a central element of the Winter Olympics Sports Hub that will be a strong influence on how sports stars and brands engage through social and digital media in 2014. In the past 24 months it has partnered with stars of the calibre of Usain Bolt, David Beckham, Leo Messi and Victoria Pendleton.

The relationship with Leinster Rugby will be based on providing technical solutions and products for coaches and players all the way through from the Academy to leading stars like Brian O’Driscoll and Jamie Heaslip.

Key products including the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Gear will assist in assessing daily training and well-being responses for each individual athlete. The level of detail provided via the devices will give coaching staff the opportunity to personalise programmes for players with the most up-to-date medical and fitness data.

“We’re delighted to be the Official Technology Partner of Leinster Rugby,” said Gary Twohig, General Manager, Samsung Electronics IT & Mobile Ireland. “The team has a proven track record when it comes to international and national sporting excellence so we’re confident our products will enhance team performance and efficiencies through intuitive technologies.”

“The Samsung Note 10.1 will allow players and coaches to access training programmes and key statistics on the move, either at home or away. The convergence of content between our devices allows for seamless sharing directly from the device giving the coaches the real time data required to make tactical decisions during training and game situations.”

“Samsung are committed to providing top quality, innovative software and we are delighted to welcome them on board as Technology Partner to the province,” added Mick Dawson, Chief Executive of Leinster Rugby.

“The technology that Samsung will provide will greatly benefit the squad and backroom team’s preparations and analysis over the coming months and their addition to our stable of loyal and valued sponsors is a timely one as we gear up for a busy period in the campaign.”
