Garth Brooks Croke ParkUPDATE: Garth Brooks has now sold out a fourth and fifth concert at Croke Park, producing a total windfall for the GAA of somewhere in the region of €3.5 million.  Added to the One Direction concerts and the Croke Park Classic there will be nine non-GAA events at the stadium between May and the end of August that will generate over 10% of the entire Association revenue from 2013.  That’s good business.

Fans have been queuing in the rain and the cold and this morning they will hope to secure one of the hottest tickets of the year when the shutters, real and virtual, open up for the sale of tickets to see Garth Brooks play at Croke Park this summer.

It is normally the All Ireland Finals that attract the most frenzied search for the ability to be there but even those great events have strong competition this year from the two dates being played by the American country superstar in July.

One Direction have already completely sold out three dates at the stadium in May in what will be a bumper year for additional non-sporting revenue from the venue.

Tickets released today are limited to six per person an be prepared for a slowdown in internet accessibility as it seems that every adult of a certain age will be looking to secure a place in the crowd.

The comeback event after a long period off the road will be the start of a world tour later in the year and has generated massive interest among country and western fans around the world.  Brooks played the stadium when it was still only part constructed 17 years ago.  It is likely the eyes of much of the world will be on it come July 25th.

Croke Park will continue an American theme through the summer with the arrival of Penn State and University of Central Florida for the Croke Park Classic on August 30th.
