The lunch is a central part of the GPA’s efforts to develop a county player alumni.
“The Former Players Group was established to help create an active network of past players under the umbrella of the GPA,” said Group Chairman Tony Hanahoe.
“We decided last year to host a social gathering of former footballers and hurlers to celebrate their contribution to the games and were absolutely delighted with the event.
“We need now to develop the network and secure a strong data base of contacts which we will do this year as we establish the Former Players lunch as a formal, annual event in the GAA calendar.”
“We believe that a strong network can provide support to former players who may be in personal difficulty for whatever reasons. While ultimately this will include fundraising for a players benevolent fund, we would hope that within that network, players would also be prepared to offer their professional services to those in need.”
Any former players interested in attending or sponsors are asked to contact Seán Potts or Eamonn Murphy in the Gaelic Players Association on 018575686 or drop a note to info@gaelicplayers.com
