Cycle against Suicide 2015In keeping with it’s growing reputation as the Sporting Capital of the island of Ireland Belfast hosted this week’s start of the Cycle Against Suicide.

The 1,400 KM ride will cross Northern Ireland taking in Derry and Coleraine before swing south as far as Mizen Head and returning via Cork, Clonmel, Portlaosie and Mullingar to finish in Dublin on Sunday May 10th.

800 riders set out to do the whole journey with hundreds more joining in to cycle single days along the way.

The cycle is intended primarily to raise awareness of mental health issues and it has played a key role in doing so since it first took place under the leadership of Jim Breen in 2012.

The 800 riders taking part symbolises the number of people each year who are estimated to take their own lives through suicide.
