World Rugby have agreed a partnership with Duracell to become the official battery provider supplier of Rugby World Cup 2015 in England.
It’s the latest in a line of commercial deals signed by the Governing body that includes overall partnerships, sect specific and supplier deals.
“We are delighted to be welcoming Duracell as a new member of the growing Rugby World Cup commercial partner family,” said World Rugby Chief Executive Brett Gosper
“The appointment of a yet another brand sector leader within our strong portfolio of commercial partners further underscores the enormous prestige of Rugby World Cup in global commercial marketplace.”
“Duracell is proud to be part of Rugby World Cup 2015,” added Vicky Miller, Duracell Business Leader UK & Ireland.
“At Duracell we aim to deliver power and longevity, two adjectives that are synonymous with rugby, so we believe our involvement is a natural and exciting fit.”
The Duracell announcement follows the appointment of Heineken, Land Rover, Société Générale, DHL, Emirates and MasterCard as Rugby World Cup 2015 Worldwide Partners; Coca-Cola, Canon and Toshiba as Official Sponsors; Gilbert as Official Ball Supplier, Canterbury of New Zealand as Official Sportswear Supplier, Clifford Chance as Official Law Firm, EY as Business Advisor, Dove Men+Care as official Male Grooming Supplier and ESP as Master Licensee.
These deals will set a benchmark for how an Ireland 2023 bid might perform in generating global interest should the bid being assembled succeed in two years time.
Australian print media meanwhile, led by flagship titles like the Sydney Morning Herald will not be sending reporters to the games in a row over what kind of coverage will be permitted through video coverage on online sites outside of the main broadcasters.
The tournament gets underway on September 18th with Ireland’s four group stage matches on Saturday, September 19th and each of the following three weekends on Sunday afternoon.
