Basketball Ireland launched it’s new season yesterday with the draws taking place for the Hula Hoops National Cups.

CEO Bernard O’Byrne introduced the draw with a number of announcements about the season.  “We will be introducing return to play protocols for potential concussion cases in the coming weeks.”

“We are also pleased to be announcing that the Men’s and Women’s Senior National Cups will be televised live in two separate broadcasts on TG4 over the weekend of the Finals in January.”

The Men’s Final will be shown live from the National Basketball Arena on Saturday night with the Women’s Final now moving to a Sunday teatime slot as the culmination of a day of other finals.

This promises to be an exiting year for the sport with a ‘national’ club team competing in European competition for the first time and bringing top European opposition to Tallaght on what promise to be some loud Wednesday nights in November.

The draws were live streamed online to the Basketball community yesterday with an audience believed to be over 5,000 tuning in.
