AIB have struck lucky with media coverage of this year’s GAA Club Championships.
Having two teams from Dublin advance to the respective Leinster Finals in Football and Hurling is a rare occurrence and sides from the capital do tens to attract the media.
That has been especially the case with Cuala who have been more written about and talked about than most County Champions due to a happy coming together of media and club members.
They even made it onto RTE’s Callan Kicks show when the Dublin County Final clashed with the Rugby World Cup Final and Cuala football selector / RTE presenter Des Cahill was torn in where he wanted to be.
Better still for AIB’s coverage is the fact that the Daily Star’s main GAA correspondent Shane Stapleton is a strong half back on the Cuala side, or at least was until a broken finger paused his personal campaign. The national media looking to write about the club scene are delighted to have ‘one of their own’ in camp as the Dublin Champions march on.
And it doesn’t stop. The Account Executive managing media relations for AIB as sponsors of the competition at PR firm Wilson Hartnell is none other than free scoring corner forward David Treacy so he is appearing above and below the line in media call outs for interviews and photo opportunities.
Last and by a long way least your own correspondent Rob Hartnett is heavily involved at the club and will be travelling on the bus to Carlow this weekend for the Leinster Hurling Final with four kids and a phone to tweet pictures of the (hopeful) celebrations at the final whistle.
The stepping up as sponsors of the All Ireland Senior Football Championship at inter county level was a first for AIB this year and they have been winning awards and credit of late for the ways in which they blended club and county.
They could hardly have hoped though that the coverage would continue through the club scene, at national level once the roars of Croke Park had begun to fade away.
