Rio 2016 - Team Ireland Equestrian Media DayOne of the biggest sporting events of the summer in Ireland in terms of attracting international stars is likely to be the Tattersalls International Horse Trials taking place in County Meath on the June Bank Holiday weekend.

There will be Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze medallists, Equestrian World Games winners, the irish Olympic squad and six of the world’s top 20 competitors taking part in the events among 370 riders from around the world.

It is also a major corporate event with commercial partners including AIB, Land Rover, Failte Ireland, Independent News and Media, Tayto and Alltech all involved.

“Tattersalls continues to attract the stars of the Eventing world,” said Roger Casey, Managing Director of Tattersalls Ireland at this week’s launch of the event.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the Irish Olympic Squad as they near the final stages of their preparation for Rio.”

“Likewise to include multiple Olympic Gold medallist Andrew Hoy, silver medal winners William Fox Pitt, Zara Tindall and Mary King and other big international names such as Camilla Spiers and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s daughter Bella is a great honour for the event.”

“With well over 300 entries we acknowledge the number of amateur, junior and pony riders who are supporting us and competing alongside the best in the world. It is a mouth watering line up.”

The event takes place over five days from June 1st. It does clash with the Bloom Festival in the Phoenix Park which is a shame given they both have great appeall to families but if the sun shines it promises to be a great event again in this its eleventh year. There won’t be many better opportunities to get as close to Olympics winners in Ireland this summer.
