We like the way that RTÉ Sport has got behind the new national icons of the O’Donovan Brothers with this social media driven #PullLikeADogChallenge.

They have taken elements of the lads interviews before and after winning Silver at the Olympics on Friday and are generating conversation and application in gyms across the country.

We are a great nation for jumping on a happy bandwagon and there have been queues reported in gyms since the weekend as people switch from treadmills and bikes to the rowing machines tucked away to one side.

It’s not the first time that the machines have come to prominence. They were the exercise of choice for Frank Underwood in the popular Netflix series House of Cards but it has to be said that Gary and Paul are a little more likeable as role models.

British Rowing, which has enjoyed huge success over recent games has signed up a partnership deal with a US technology start up LiveRowing to create featured work outs and connected ‘races’ against fellow stationery users in gyms around the world.

LiveRowing

“Indoor rowing presents a huge opportunity for our sport to grow participants and increase our fan base,” said British Rowing Head of Commercial Rich Stock.

“Working with LiveRowing will help us to showcase indoor rowing to a broader health and fitness market powered by the world class coaching and training expertise that exists in the UK and within British Rowing.”
