The World Archery Field Championships gets underway today at Kilruddery House in Wicklow.
Over 300 archers from 32 countries will will take part in the culmination of a strategic plan to bring major sporting events that are suitable for Ireland to this country.
Failte Ireland’s focus of support has switched from the major established events such as the irish Open which now comfortably stands on its own feet after strong state support over the years towards new events that will generate additional economic impact and broaden the active tourism base.
The 300 competitors will be joined by 100 officials as well as family and friends and gain exposure on Archery TV and in news and content clips around the world.
The Sport for Business Tourism Group will meet again in November to review this and the success of other tourism driven and supported events including the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, the Etihad Airways GAA World Games, the Longines Champions’ Weekend and promoter led events including those run by Red Bull.
