Cabinteely FC has announced ambitious plans to build on their start in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland.

The club which joined the League in 2015 will celebrate 50 years of its existence in the community next year and has taken that milestone as a sort to a new chapter where additional resource will be made available to the senior team to establish itself firmly as a ‘beacon’ for community football in the League.

Pat Devlin has been appointed as Director of Football and first team manager and has been given a small budget to develop the players coming through from youth level and potentially to bring in additional players.

The club plays its home matches at the Rugby grounds of Blackrock College and while the first night crowd of 1,650 two years ago has yet to be repeated, there is scope within a vibrant soccer community to build a core fan base.

Next season will be the third of a three year agreement with Blackrock College Rugby Club for the use of those facilities.

Discussions are also underway with a number of potential sponsors for next season.

The club has a strong juvenile section and the Mini World Cup it runs in the summer is the largest in the country with 1,200 participants.

Club Chairman Larry Bass took time out of preparing for the RTE production of Dancing with the Stars, produced by his company Shinawil Productions, to also announce an exploration of building a modest home ground for the club in Kilbogget Park.

His presence as a business leader on the board will give profile and credibility to the plans to eventually achieve top flight status and Sport for Business will have an interview with him on his plans for the club as part of our preview of the new season early in the New Year.
