Irish-owned sports retailer Elverys Intersport is in the business of expansion after recording a rise in sales of almost 10% from €68.2 million to €74.5 million in its most recently filed accounts.
The company operates a 56 stores across the country as well as a successful online retail presence and is a major player in Irish sports sponsorship.
It came within a kick of a ball last year of producing a unique double sponsorship of the winners in the All Ireland Hurling and Football Championships. Tipperary had already produced a win but Mayo came up just short of Dublin in the football.
They also have a new deal in place with Connacht Rugby and competition with Lifestyle Sports appears to be driving both brands to new highs.
The company recorded an increase in operating profit from €964,000 to €1.89 million.
These latest numbers reflect a remarkable turnaround from three years ago when the company entered examinership and was bought out by management who always had faith in what was possible.
It is now thought likely to be ready for yet more expansion and that can only be a good thing for the overall sporting economy in the country.
