PwC is the new sponsor of the Staff Relay Series and is putting its weight behind the expansion of the corporate running event to a larger scale and to other urban areas around the country.
The Dublin Staff Relay was first run in 2011 and has developed a very strong core of support from within Dublin’s business community. It involves five members of staff each running a 5KM circular route through the Phoenix Park and through the tented village where supporters and rival firms are gathered to enjoy the night.
It is also a major fundraiser for charities withy each company able to select their own charity to raise funds for.
“We’re delighted to be involved with the Staff Relay Series,” said PwC Managing Partner Fergal O’Rourke.
“It’s a tailor made event for fun, fitness and teamwork among office friends and colleagues but with, I suspect, a fair bit of banter and competitiveness on the evening.”
“It’s great that it’s an accessible event for all classes of runners from the serious to the fun runners like myself. We’re really looking forward to it in PwC.”
Partner
This is a latest foray into sport for the multinational management company in Ireland. It is a partner of the IRFU through support of the National U20 team and the structure of under age rugby; and of the Gaelic Players Association with whom it has enjoyed a long standing relationship.
It is also a strong employer within sport. Cian O’Sullivan and Seamus O’Shea are among the many inter county GAA players who turn up for work in the Docklands on the Monday morning after a Championship weekend.
The Staff Relay Series is managed by Pierce O’Callaghan of Savvy Sports and Eamon McGloughlin of Fortitude Sports Management, under the name of Global relay Events.
“The event has grown from strength to strength since the first run in 2011 and with this new and exciting partnership with PwC we are confident we can grow the event exponentially both in Dublin and throughout the other urban areas in Ireland.”
Vision
“The vision of the Staff Relay Series is clear – to provide a unique and special opportunity to build team spirit and create a sense of healthy competition within the workplace and to bring a sense of fun to a running event characterised with our hashtag #Run4aLaugh and having Neil Delamere on board as an ambassador for the event.”
The final kilometre of the 5km route passes through the Relay Village – a tented area where companies set up office for the night – and colleagues can cheer and encourage their team mates as they complete the final leg of the relay before socialising over refreshments.
This is an event for organisations of all sizes and stature – from small local businesses to large multinationals.
The 2017 event is targeted to attract 4,000 runners and takes place at 6pm on Thursday May 25th.
The Dublin Staff relay was presented as one of the sponsorship opportunities that might appeal to Irish businesses at a Sport for Business 20/20 event, a new version of which we will be announcing shortly for later in the spring.
