The campaign was launched yesterday at the Aviva Stadium by former rugby international David Wallace, Leinster Rugby’s Mike Ross and Mike McCarthy, celebrity chef Derry Clarke, broadcaster and journalist Charlie Bird and Fair City actress Rachel Pilkington.
As Aviva’s Charity of the Day at Ireland v England, the campaign to share the Pieta House freephone number 1800 247 247 will run on the pitchside LED boards and all Stadium matchday media.
A special video has also been commissioned by Aviva to create awareness of the campaign and this will be played at half time.
20 per cent of all coffee and tea sales on the day will go directly to Pieta House.
Mike Ross and Mike McCarthy will also be outside the Aviva Stadium before the game on Saturday encouraging fans attending to take part in the promotion by sharing the number with friends across social media.
“Pieta House was selected by our employees as Aviva’s charity partner just over a year ago,” said Matt Robinson, CFO of Aviva Insurance.
“It’s our privilege to support the tremendously important work that Pieta does in our communities,”
“If we succeed in shining a light on the fight against suicide at Saturday’s big match in the Stadium, that would be a result more valuable than any final score.”
“We are delighted that Pieta House is Aviva’s ‘Charity of the Day’ on Saturday – for one of the biggest fixtures in rugby, Ireland vs England,” added Brian Higgins, CEO, Pieta House.
“A priority for us is tackling the stigma that leads people to the doors of Pieta House, so together we really can become a ‘Team of Us’ in the fight against suicide.”
“We are here for people in crisis 24 hours a day 7 days week, through our helpline 1800 247 247.”
“At Pieta House we encourage people to focus on the light and not the dark. So I’d encourage people across Ireland – including the 50,000 fans who will be in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday – to share the number and share the light. We can all play our part in realising the vision of Pieta House of a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance.”
