Sport for Business, in partnership with Liberty Insurance, has begun the publication of our annual list of the 50 Most Influential Women in Irish Sport.
This is not about Women’s sport, it is about the influence that women are wielding across all sport. We will identify leaders on and off the field of play. They will include those who are role models in terms of their abilities on and off the field of play. They will come from teams and individual sports, from sponsorship partners, from the media, from the administrative corridors of power and from places where influence may be subtle but no less powerful.
Lindsay Peat
Lindsay Peat is a sporting star who seems to be of another age given the range of sports in which she has excelled.
Under age representative success gave way to Ladies Gaelic Football where she represented Dublin winning an All Ireland in 2010 and scoring two goals in the Final of 2014.
In 2017 she stands on the verge of playing for Ireland at a Women’s Rugby World Cup having switched to the oval ball aged 35 and secured a place in the Irish Front Row and, earlier this month in the hearts of her fellow players when voted as the Rugby Players Ireland Women’s Player of the Year.
Peat has taken more time out from her career as a PE Teacher to pursue the World Cup Dream and has brought a new cohort of fans from the GAA over to take a look at what is happening in the sport.
She has also become a mother, with her partner Claire, and even thinking about how she juggles different aspects of her life would make an ordinary person tired.
The Rugby World Cup will create stars when it comes to Dublin and Belfast this August. Peat will without doubt be one of them.
