Sport for Business has partnered with Pundit Arena to promote a new Monthly Sportsman and Sportswoman of the month. The first winners were announced yesterday as Lorcan Murphy from Basketball and Phil Healy from Athletics.
Each month a group of four judges will nominate their personal favourites and then discuss the merits of each before landing on a single winner.
The judges include Rob Hartnett from Sport for Business, John Murphy from Pundit Arena, Emmet Ryan from the Sunday Business post, Sharon Hutchinson, the founder of Sportswomen.ie and Elaine Buckley of The Fairgame Podcast.
You can read about the first winners on Pundit Arena here with long-form profiles and interviews with Phil Healy who is running in the form of her life and will compete at the World Indoor Athletics Championships and Lorcan Murphy who is balancing the demands of college life, a part-time job and winning last weekend’s National Basketball Cup Final.
“This year really has shown me that I can do it. I’m hitting below world qualification and Olympic qualification. You’re up there with the best.”
- Phil Healy
“It’s a complete commitment to play because we play at such a competitive level that some people are actually paid, some people are pros but there are a lot of us that are still trying to work and play. I’m in college full-time and I work about 20 hours a week with a part-time job and I’m playing basketball as well, then I have other hobbies. It’s definitely hard to balance but I think if you enjoy it enough and you’re willing to put in the time then you can definitely balance work, college and basketball.”
- Lorcan Murphy
