Ireland and Leinster rugby star, Sean O’Brien is the latest high profile sporting star to sign up to Horse racing Ireland’s innovative #ExperienceIt campaign encouraging a taste of what it is like to be involved at the sharp end of the sport.

O’Brien visited the stables of Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle winning trainer Jessica Harrington in Kildare yesterday to meet Rovetta, a 4-year-old filly that he and his fellow “Capel Street” Syndicate members have leased.

The filly will run for the new syndicate for the first time on the 16th of May at Punchestown.

The campaign offers horse racing fans and their friends the opportunity to trial racehorse ownership. This extends not only to the thrill of the racecourse but to a real involvement with the trainer and getting to the stables to see the horse, meet the team getting it ready and experience a side of the sport that is not available to the majority of fans but which can be within easy reach with a group of friends.

Sport for Business enjoyed the experience in 2017 and will do so again later this year with a group of friends and colleagues.

“This is a taster experience for people with a curiosity in racehorse ownership. Very simply it allows people try out ownership,” said Amber Byrne, Owner Recruitment Manager at Horse Racing Ireland.

“Through networking and promotion we have been recruiting people from the corporate and sporting sectors to join syndicates. Sean and his group are the latest to get to the stables and get ready for the track.”

“The ultimate aim is to convert people into ownership but it is also about raising the profile of ownership and racing in general, promoting the syndicate model and allowing people to look behind the scenes.”
