Ireland’s largest indoor football facility is open for business in North Dublin. A purpose built dome measuring 100 x 50 metres has been erected on the grounds of the Sportslink complex in Santry which will house pitches capable of hosting five a side, six a side and up to nine a side adult matches.
“We are delighted to expand our facilities within the Soccer Dome to 5 indoor pitches and offer football players a new and unique alternative to outdoor play,” said Dublin Indoor Football Director Patricia O’Connor.
“Our Soccer Dome provides an ideal venue to hold training and football playoffs all year round, regardless of Ireland’s unpredictable weather.”
“It is also a timely launch to coincide with the addition of Sports to the secondary school curriculum.”
The business will be based on hiring out pitches for individual use, team training, school tours and one-off competitions.
Small sided soccer has been a major growth area over many years and Astro Parks, as well as a host of local authority facilities, provide access to playing facilities across the country.
Pitches have also been included for use by local teams at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus and last month Ireland hosted the local leg of the Red Bull sponsored Neymar 5’s tournament with two teams qualifying to play in the global final in Rio later this year.
Dublin Indoor Football is a valuable addition to the City’s sports infrastructure. The pitches are state of the art replicating the response of natural grass with no sand, rubber or infill. Apart from the obvious benefit of being indoors the pitches also incorporate shock absorber technology that is new to Ireland.
