Technology plays an increasingly important role in the life of a sports fans but those heading to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in Lahinch starting two weeks from today are being asked to turn off their Sat Navs.

Park and Ride facilities have been set up to cater for all public parking so as to minimise disruption for residents around the County Clare venue which is hosting the tournament for the first time. Signage has been erected from a long way out to guide people towards these as opposed to just tapping in the Golf Course.

The Park and Ride facilities will be free of charge and open from early morning to late evening from the final practice day on Wednesday through to the Sunday.

The Open is part of the Rolex Series and a key stop on the 2019 Race to Dubai. This together with the proximity to the Open Championship in Royal Portrush and the chance for golfers to get acquainted with the demands of Links Golf has attracted a star-studded field, including 2017 Champion Jon Rahm, former World Number One Martin Kaymer, Europe’s 2020 Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington, Englishman Ian Poulter and previous Rolex Series event winners Tommy Fleetwood, Lee Westwood and homegrown star Shane Lowry.

The 2014 Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley will host the event, with tens of thousands of fans expected to descend on the County Clare links, perched on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Tickets prices begin at €23 for Pro-Am Wednesday, with single tickets for Thursday or Friday costing €30 and day tickets for each weekend day costing €35 each. Children under 12 years of age are entitled to free entry when accompanied by an adult, day junior tickets for those between 12 and 17 years of age are €10 (€30 for a season ticket) while those aged between 18 and 21, as well as students with valid student cards and over 60s, can avail of a concession ticket – €20 for a day (€80 for a season).
