
A key focus of the morning session will be looking at the importance of spectator gaming and here are some key statistics from a recent report from Global Web Index on how this area is expanding.
- Streaming Service Twitch was bought for a price tag of $1 billion by Amazoon in 2014
- Twitch streamers watched 9.36 billion hours of coverage of other people playing games in 2018. YouTube live generated 2.31 billion hours of consumption in the same space.
- 31 per cent of 16-24 year old gamers have watched a live gaming stream, while 22 per cent have tuned into a live eSports tournament.
- It’s not just about the kids. 12 per cent of 45-54 year old gamers have watched a live gaming stream as well.
- The socio economic appeal is universal. 25 per cent in the top 25 per cent of earners have watched live streams of game play but 23 per cent of the bottom 25 per cent have also done so.
- Europe is in catch up mode. Only 14 per cent of us have watched versus 27 per cent in Asia pacific.
- It’s not so much about the consoles any more. 45 per cent of gamers have played in a game streamed over the internet in the past month.
- 26 per cent have watched a live eSports tournament, also in the past one month.
