Gymnastics is one of the many sports who are feeling the pain of the lockdown and they have today launched a campaign aimed at encouraging those who can to support their local clubs.
The size and scale of the Gymnastics ecosystem is large with clubs ranging in size from those catering to 100 members and generating €50,000 in annual turnover to the larger ones catering to 2,000, employing up to 40 staff and generating turnover of over €1,000,000.
They have been unable to open since March 27th but still have costs and overheads to meet and the sports Governing Body has today called on those who have not been impacted financially as much as others to do what they can to maintain their term payments.
Cash is vital in any business and while there is no doubt that these clubs are sustainable and will bounce back in normal circumstances, these are far from normal and it may need some to step up a little more if they can.
The video below was launched earlier today across the sport’s social media channels and features input from Olympic hopeful Rhys McClenaghan as well as CEO of Gymnastics Ireland Ciaran Galagher and Chair Shane O’Connor.
It is an effective way of recognising a problem that exists across all sports.
Join us next week when Ciaran Gallagher will feature in an in-depth video interview looking at how the sport is coming to terms with these challenging times.
