An independent media that is viable has never been more important and in our own sporting world, there was a sense of celebration on Monday when the print edition of the Racing Post newspaper returned to shelves after its suspension, along with that of sport, back in March.
Speaking about the return Editor Tom Kerr wrote that “It’s been an incredibly difficult two months for all those involved with racing on these shores. The temporary halt in production of the newspaper in March was something no-one could have predicted earlier in the year but I’m delighted to say we are coming back better than ever.”
“The team at Racing Post is prepared for the resumption of racing, and although it will be in a new world to the one it left behind we’re excited to be part of it.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with the talented team here on the plans for bringing the print newspaper back – no small task under the current circumstances – and I can’t wait to get my hands on that first print edition.”
“We all love newspapers, and we know that for many of our customers there’s no substitute to the feel and experience of a print Racing Post as their daily guide to this great sport.
“We’re going to have all of our old favourites back in the paper again, but we’ve also got a few surprises up our sleeve which we hope will delight readers old and new.”
The first edition had a major interview with Lester Piggott and while it is behind closed doors the sport is quickly getting back into the swing with the 1000 and 2000 guineas taking place at Newmarket this coming weekend.
Irish racing resumes at Naas racecourse on Monday 8th with our own 1000 and 2000 Guineas taking place at The Curragh the following weekend.
Of course, everything has changed but sometimes it is a return to the staples of daily sporting debate that can be the greatest salve on the damage that has been wrecked over the past months.
Welcome back Racing Post.
