The show will take place from 3-5 June 2013 with support from VisitScotland, Scottish Development International and Fife Council.
“As the Golf Business Forum is celebrating its 10th anniversary, it is appropriate that we should meet at the Home of Golf, St Andrews,” said Andrea Sartori, head of KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice.
“The event remains focused on the development of golf venues and facilities internationally, and Scotland has been immensely influential in the export of golf as a sport and business for more than a century. The next two years are an especially important time for Scotland, as it looks forward to hosting The Ryder Cup in 2014, and a number of new golf courses, resorts and golf-related real estate projects continue to be developed.”
The KPMG Forum has become the main event for the gathering of commercial interests around the sport. It was held at Powerscourt in Ireland in 2008 when Jack Nicklaus was the guest of honour and the impact of the then emerging financial crisis was one of the main subjects of interest.
Ireland has clearly targetted golf as a high value driver of tourism and this year’s Irish Open at Royal Portrush was the first European PGA Tour event to sell out.
It is clearly a competitive market though and Scotland is a major rival fro international visitors.
“The addition of the Golf Business Forum to a calendar that includes major events such as The Ryder Cup and Open Championships signals Scotland’s intent that it is open for business and ready to invest in the future of the game,” said Visit Scotland Chairman Mike Cantlay.
