In this third of our series looking at the regional allocation of Sports Capital Grants, we turn now to the eight counties that make up Connaught and Ulster which were eligible for funding.

The population of 837,000 comes in at 75% of either Dublin or Munster where we have looked so far but the per capita sum of €5.65 is marginally the highest.  In total the funding of projects across the two provinces comes to €4,736,268
The GAA dominates again with 43 projects taking in just short of €2.4 million.
Six GAA projects took in funding of €100,000 or more as opposed to only one across the other individual sports.
Rugby, despite its resurgence in Connaught received less than one quarter the amount of funding than it did in Munster.
It was overtaken in the list by tennis which has performed consistently well across the country and athletics which is stronger in this region than any of the others we have looked at so far.
There was plenty of diversity as well with funding for lawn bowling, tug-o-war clay pigeon shooting and table tennis projects.

  1. GAA (42 projects)           € 2,157,681
