Matthew Dossett, Deputy Head of Sport in Trinity College Dublin has been elected as President of Student Sport Ireland, taking over from Carmel Lynch, while UCD’s Catherine Mahony was re-elected Vice President.
Niamh O’Callaghan of TU Dublin and Karl Oakes from Queens University are also joining the board as directors.
Student Sport Ireland is the governing body for third level and higher education sport, working with its membership of 30 Universities and Colleges to drive and develop quality student sports competition, enhance wellbeing, and to lead the sector.
The area of student sport collectively employs more than 1,100 full and part-time staff across the island of Ireland, providing sport and physical activity services, facilities, events, and competition to a population of over 250,000 students.
A former ski racer and coach, Dossett has been involved in the sports industry for 20 years, holding various positions in sports development, management, and leadership predominantly in university sport across the UK and Ireland.
He holds a BSc in Sports Science, as well as an MSc in Sports Management, and in his current position at Trinity College Dublin he oversees the advancement and delivery of the strategy for sport, infrastructure projects, partnerships, as well as key stakeholder relationships.
Within Student Sport Ireland he has served on the high-performance committee, as well as chairperson for the finance and governance committee.
