The joy of fans getting back to watching matches live could quickly turn to anxiety about securing a place in the first instance if ticketing stories emerging today are anything to go by.
Saturday night’s marquee game in Division One of the Allianz Football League is a complete sell-out with 12,000 fans ready to fill Austin Stack Park in Tralee.
Then Kerry fans may be stymied again later in the summer with the Munster Senior Football Championship semi-final against Cork being moved from Pairc Uí Chaoimh to Pair Uí Rinn on May 7th.
That would reduce the potential crowd from 45,000 to just 12,000 for what is one of the biggest games of the summer in Munster.
That switch is to accommodate Ed Sheeran bringing his world tour to Cork at that time. The singer is fond of donning Irish sporting jerseys during his concerts but he won’t be popular with fans who might also yet have to make alternative arrangements for the Munster rugby URC tie against Leinster.
Sport for Business Perspective
The venues need the cash injection of the big concerts more than ever after two years of little or no revenue so the frustration will pass but it won’t be easy to swallow if you are one of those who waited patiently for the return of live games but will now be forced to watch remotely after all. Unless you get a ticket for the concert of course.
