Pinergy has been unveiled as the official presenting partner for Munster Rugby’s historic clash with the South Africa Select XV, which will take place at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork on Thursday, November 10th.
The announcement comes just weeks after Pinergy launched the second year of their sponsorship of the Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup competition.
Today’s news is a further commitment of support for the province, as they prepare to host the first-ever professional rugby game at the premier venue in the City.
40,000 Tickets sold out for the game in less than 36 hours and there is a real sense of excitement across Munster for getting the game played there.
“Cork fans have long travelled up the road to Limerick for Munster biggest games and it is fantastic to have this game for them,” said former Munster star Billy Holland speaking to Sport for Business yesterday.
“I played a bit of football when I was a kid and while I proved to be rubbish as a hurler, it is a sport that you can only thrill to.”
“Being with my family in the stands to watch this game will be special, though I have to say I might be a little bit envious of the lads who get to run out onto the pitch.”
“This is going to be a fabulous spectacle,” added Cork hurling legend Diarmuid O’Sullivan who is also an ambassador for Pinergy’s backing of the game.”
“Being on a Thursday night will bring a different feel to the big game atmosphere and there is a huge enthusiasm for the game here. Everyone wants to be there.”
Munster’s start to the season has been slow but this could be a spark to lift them. Historic wins have been achieved against New Zealand, Australia, and most recently in 2016 against the Maori All Blacks.
This will be the first time in the professional era that Munster Rugby face a South African touring side with the last encounter taking place in 1970.
CJ Stander, BJ Botha, Damian de Allende, Shaun Payne and Jean De Villiers have provided a rich context between the province and the country as well as current squad members RG Snyman, Jean Kleyn and Keynan Knox.
Having Rassie Erasmus lead the World Champions will also add to a special atmosphere given his previous role with Munster.
“We have been proud supporters of Munster Rugby for some time now,” said Pinergy CEO Enda Gunnell.
“This is in addition to our partnership with the Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup competition, and our focus on delivering sustainable initiatives with Munster’s rugby stadia with the supply and measurement of 100% renewable energy across the stadia, LED retrofits and a significant solar PV project for Musgrave Park.”
“We are thrilled to be unveiled as the presenting partner for what is set to be a truly historic and unforgettable clash with this touring South Africa side, and we are extremely proud to be supporting Munster Rugby in their bid to add yet another famous victory to the history books.”
“We are delighted to welcome our long-time supporters, Pinergy, on board as the presenting partner for what is set to be a truly memorable occasion for Munster,” added Head of Commercial and Marketing at Munster Rugby, Dave Kavanagh.
“It is exciting to welcome South Africa back to Munster for the first time in more than 50 years, and we are looking forward to continuing our proud tradition of hosting major touring sides in the province. This game will be played in front of a sell-out crowd and we’ve no doubt that the Munster faithful will be in full voice on the night.”
