There is something about sticker collections and sport. We have all got memories of tearing open a packet of Panini ahead of a major football tournament and finding a Maradona, a Messi, or the 25th time we have got a reserve goalkeeper on the New Zealand team.

Them is the breaks and it was always football that tended to dominate.

Now though, since Aldi got involved with the IRFU, Rugby has been entering the mix and today Beibhinn Parsons, Paul O’Connell, and Linda Djougang met with students Conor Nolan, Emmie Byrne, Nathan Young, and Ella Murphy to launch the return of ALDI’s Play Rugby Sticker Competition.

Every primary school in the country has the opportunity to win a €50,000 sports facility makeover by collecting ALDI’s Rugby stickers when they spend €25 or more in their local ALDI store.

It also helps those schools to promote the players that will be filling the screens and stadia over the coming weeks and building their awareness as players and heroes.

All three of the stars above feature on the poster that schools will be encouraged to fill.

From Aldi’s perspective, it harnesses the undoubted pester power of kids to boost footfall.

A winner all around, now what do I have to do to get that elusive Bundee Aki sticker?

Sport for Business Perspective:

As you might gather, we love this idea. It works for the rights holder to boost visibility and awareness among the fans of the future; It works for the brand in terms of getting pester power on side; and it works for the schools with €50,000 a significant amount to upgrade a sports space.
