Leinster and Ireland Rugby international Robbie Henshaw has joined the Board of the National Council for the Blind in Ireland.

The 29-year-old has previously been an ambassador for NCBI, supporting the organisation in raising awareness and funds for the services, supports and training that are so vital to people who are blind or vision impaired around Ireland.

“I am delighted to join the Group Board of NCBI having previously worked with the organisation for a number of years,” said Henshaw.

“My past experiences interacting with NCBI helped me get an insight into the incredible work the organisation does across Ireland for the sight loss community.”

“Now by joining their Board, I can contribute and learn even more and collaborate with my fellow Board members in progressing NCBI’s many exciting opportunities available now and into the future.”

“Robbie will be a huge asset to NCBI going forward and his knowledge, insight and profile will help us to further enhance the reputation of NCBI as Ireland’s leading sight loss agency who are here to help children and adults who are blind or vision impaired.”

“Having worked with Robbie in the past on various NCBI projects, I can attest to his passion for the things that we do and we look forward to bringing that energy into the organisation.”

Vision Sport Ireland is an important sporting element of the NCBI and organises a MayFest which allows people with sight loss to try out new sports, as well as other projects including a day of driving at speed around Mondello Park.
