The Business of Women’s Sport Conference one week away

Katie Taylor and Anne Ebbs were two of 25 recipients recognised for their contribution to Irish public life at the Women’s Executive Network awards.
Anne Ebbs led the Paralympic Council of Ireland from 1987 to 2008 and was instrumental in raising the concept of elite disability sport to the level it is at today producing Ireland’s most successful ever retuen from an international competition at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.
Katie Taylor became a household name with Gold at the Olympic Games and is recognised as the best woman boxer in the world as well as an outstanding role model for young girls coming through in sport.
“WXN has noted a change in the landscape of female leadership in Ireland since we launched here in 2008,” said Pamela Jeffery, Founder of the Women’s Executive Network.
“More CEO-level women have emerged, including Siobhan Talbot as Chief Executive at Glanbia, Anne O’Leary as Chief Executive at Vodafone Ireland and our own Advisory Board member, Ellvena Graham becoming Head of Ulster Bank, Northern Ireland.”
It is worth noting that all three of those companies are major sporting sponsors within Ireland.
“Women are also playing an ever more important role in sport and we are delighted to recognise two such outstanding individuals as Anne and Katie,” added Ms Jeffery.
Stephen Young, CEO of HSBC Ireland who sponsored the awards said: “HSBC sees diverse leadership as part of our DNA and crucial to our business success. As a business in Ireland employing over 400 people, our workforce and customers need and want inspirational role models. There is also a compelling business case for embracing diversity and inclusion; they can drive innovation and aid our understanding of changing world demographics. That is why we’re so proud to be part of the WXN Top 25 Awards.”
Sport for Business will host The Business of Women’s Sport conference at UCD Smurfit Business School on Thursday June 20th with Annette Ní Dhathlaoi of Liberty Insurance and the managers of the Irish Women’s soccer and rugby teams among a high class panel of speakers and contributors.
