The Annual General Meeting of the Gaelic Players Association took place on Saturday with over 100 inter county players from around the country gathered to debate a number of key motions and elect the GPA’s National Executive Committee.
A call was unanimously approved for improved injury coverage, “addressing the inadequacy of the current insurance in safeguarding inter-county players from financial loss,” and to add an additional Player representative to the GAA Central Council.
There was also a call for the abolition of pre-season inter county competitions, though provincial councils will have to weigh up the loss of potential sponsorship from these competitions.
Galway Footballer Damien Comer and Mayo’s Cora Staunton were both elected as player representatives on the GPA’s National Executive Committee alongside Dublin Camogie player Aisling Maher and Laois Footballer Kieran Lillis.
Dublin footballer Ciaran Kilkenny is among the players to be stepping away after serving their term on the group.
The GPA’s Annual Report will be published later today and we will have coverage of that in today’s PM Bulletin.
