The lessons to be learnt between sport and business are always good to tease out and especially when you can do so in the company of Olympic Silver Medallist Gary O’Donovan.
We had the pleasure of doing that today in the offices of Arthur Cox at a lunchtime learning session.
Phil Greene, Sponsorship manager at PTSB was part of the chat as well and we were also joined by Arthur Cox Senior Associates Rachel Barry and Jennifer Duffy who also sit on the boards of Hockey Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport.
Gary, resplendent in a Christmas jumper has completed a law degree and is currently doing his FE1 exams so there was a spark immediately with the audience.
The shared experience did not go all the way to winning Silver with brother Paul at the Rio Olympic Games however and his retelling of what that felt like was electric.
“As we crossed the line I knew we had finished first, fourth, second or third but hadn’t a clue which one,” he said bringing the day back to life in vivid colour.
We will have the full conversation as part of a Sport for Business Podcast next week and it will be well worth a listen.
Hosting events like this for staff is one of the benefits of a Partner or Gold membership of Sport for Business and is a fun part of how we go about building bridges between our members.
