Hockey Ireland has announced that Anne McCormack will be stepping down from her role as CEO, marking the end of a two-year tenure defined by organisational renewal, stronger community engagement, and enhanced governance across the sport.
McCormack’s time at the helm has coincided with a period of considerable progress.
Under her leadership, Hockey Ireland has made advances in high-performance development, grassroots participation, and commercial growth, alongside a strengthening of its financial position and an increase in the sport’s visibility both domestically and on the international stage.
Equally important has been the evolution of the organisation’s governance and strategic direction, including improvements in transparency, safeguarding, and a deeper focus on player welfare.
She has also been credited with helping to cultivate a more collaborative culture across the hockey community, from elite athletes and clubs to volunteers and international partners.
McCormack joined in 2023, having previously served as Chief Operations Officer at Golf Ireland.
In a statement issued last night, the Board of Directors of Hockey Ireland said:
“Anne’s leadership has played a key role in guiding the organisation through an important phase of renewal and development.”
“The Board would like to extend its sincere thanks to Anne for her dedication and leadership during her time with us.”
“Her contribution to the organisation has been significant, and we wish her every success in her next chapter.”
“To support a smooth handover, Anne will work closely with the Board during this transition period while the process to appoint a successor is underway.”
In the same statement, McCormack added that “I want to thank the board, their committees, our staff, and the wider hockey community for their support during my time as CEO.”
“It’s been a privilege to work with such passionate and committed people who care deeply about the sport.”
“I look forward to seeing the organisation continue to build on this positive momentum and move confidently into the future.”
She later added on social media that “As for me, I’m now open to new opportunities and looking for my next challenge.”
“Whether it’s in sport, purpose-driven work, or a completely new sector, I’m excited to explore roles where I can make a meaningful impact, lead with purpose, and grow with great people.”
Anne McCormack has featured in the list of 50 Women of Influence in Irish Sport for the past three years and we have no doubt that she will find another role to bring her skills of leadership to, when the time is right.
The leadership transition comes just weeks after significant Board changes were announced in May 2025, with Susan Spence taking over as Chair from Trevor Watkins, and Deirdre Duke, Roger O’Connor and Kevin Keane also joining the Board.
