The Aviva Stadium Board has announced that David French is to step down as Chief Executive Officer at the end of the year, having accepted a new position within the sports industry.

French took up the role in November 2023, succeeding Martin Murphy, bringing extensive international sports management experience from senior positions at Manchester United and the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, one of Asia’s leading multi-purpose venues.

During his two-year tenure, French has overseen a busy period for the stadium, featuring major international rugby and football fixtures, as well as world-class concerts and events, including Taylor Swift, which have reinforced the Aviva Stadium’s reputation as one of Europe’s premier sports and entertainment destinations.

Niall Rynne, Chair of the Aviva Stadium Board, paid tribute to French’s contribution:

“On behalf of the Board, I want to extend our sincere thanks to David French for his dedicated service over the past two years as CEO. We wish him every success in the future, both personally and professionally.”

Reflecting on his time in Dublin, French said:

“It has been a privilege to lead the Aviva Stadium and work alongside the outstanding team here, as well as at the IRFU and FAI. I am proud of what we have achieved together, from hosting unforgettable sporting occasions and major concerts to helping ensure the stadium remains a world-class venue at the heart of Irish life.”

The recruitment process for a new CEO will begin immediately.
