Orla Comerford produced one of the outstanding performances of the Morton Games, winning the inaugural Allianz women’s mixed-classification Para 100 metres in 11.72 seconds.
Running with a legal following wind of just 0.1 metres per second, the Raheny Shamrock athlete lowered her personal best from 11.76 and set a new European T13 record, subject to formal ratification by European Athletics.
It was an emphatic home-track performance from the reigning world T13 100m and 200m champion, delivered as Para athletics was incorporated into the main international programme at Dublin’s World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting.
The run strengthens Comerford’s standing among the world’s leading sprinters and was one of the most electric Irish performances of the meeting.
