Leinster Rugby’s return to the redeveloped Laya Arena on Saturday evening brought competitive rugby back to the Ballsbridge venue after two seasons when Leinster’s home fixtures were held mainly at Aviva Stadium while redevelopment work took place at the RDS.
The €52 million redevelopment has transformed the venue, including a reconstructed Anglesea Stand and significant improvements to spectator facilities, accessibility, hospitality, and the overall matchday experience.
With capacity now exceeding 20,000, the redeveloped arena represents a substantial investment in the infrastructure underpinning professional rugby in Ireland.
It also marks the beginning of a new phase in the relationship between Leinster Rugby, the RDS and Laya Healthcare.
The health insurer secured naming rights to the venue through a partnership announced in November 2025, creating a prominent association with one of the country’s best-supported professional sporting teams.
Saturday was the first chance to experience that partnership in a fully seated stadium on a competitive matchday.
Laya Healthcare’s activation extends beyond naming rights through its All Access programme, which provides members with opportunities to attend Leinster fixtures and enjoy enhanced experiences, including hospitality.
More than 100 Laya members attended Saturday’s 29-5 win over Cardiff through the programme, with five receiving upgraded hospitality experiences.
The initiative will continue throughout the season.
The return restored the distinctive atmosphere associated with the RDS, and there was a palpable sense of excitement among the fans who made their wat there.
Sport for Business Perspective
Leinster’s ability to generate substantial attendances, attract major sponsors and support investment in its home venue demonstrates the commercial strength of its model.
Another key measure of success will be whether the Laya Arena can establish itself as one of Ireland’s strongest examples of a sporting venue delivering value simultaneously for supporters, sponsors, commercial partners and the team that calls it home. Saturday was a great first step and the signs it will do so are positive.
